1. Types of Vietnam entry approval letter for foreigners

Depending on the purpose of foreigners entered into Vietnam, the place where the Vietnamese visa is received, and the duration of the visa granted to foreigners, the Vietnam entry approval letter has a specific classification as follows:

a. Entry approval letter for foreigners classified according to the purpose of entry into Vietnam:

• Tourist entry approval letter.

• Commercial entry approval letter.

• Entry approval letter of labor and investment.

• Entry approval letter to visit relatives.

• Entry approval letter for conferences and seminars.

• Entry approval letter of reporters and newspapers residing in Vietnam.

b. Entry approval letter for foreigners classified by visa receiving location:

• Entry approval letter at International Airport Border Gate.

• Entry approval letter at the International Land Border Gate.

• Entry approval letter at Water Border Gate.

• Entry approval letter at Vietnamese Embassy/Consulate abroad.

c Immigration letter for foreigners classified by visa duration and number of entries and exits to Vietnam:

• 1 month entry approval letter – enter Vietnam 1 or more times.

• 3 months entry approval letter – enter Vietnam 1 or more times.

• 6 months entry approval letter - multiple entry to Vietnam.

• 1 year entry approval letter - multiple entry to Vietnam.

Any agency or organization that invites or guarantees to apply for an entry approval letter for foreigners to enter Vietnam must go to the Immigration Department of the Ministry of Public Security to carry out procedures for guaranteeing an entry approval letter. However, this cannot be done by all agencies or organizations, that is the reason why many agencies and organizations that want to apply for an entry approval letter for foreigners must go through a third party who are agents, travel agencies or companies specializing in applying for entry approval letters for foreigners.

2. Conditions for issuance of entry approval letters

• Have a valid passport or international travel document.

• Having a guarantee by an agency, organization or individual in Vietnam.

• In case foreigners want to apply for an Investment visa, they must have an Investment Certificate in Vietnam according to the provisions of the Investment Law.

• In case foreigners want to apply for a Business visa, they need a work permit in accordance with the provisions of the Labor Law.

• In case foreigners want to apply for a visa to visit relatives, they are required to have documents proving their blood relationship with the relatives who want to guarantee them to enter Vietnam.
