In case of using an overdue visa, foreigners will receive sanctions in accordance with current law.
Sanctions for overdue visa
According to the provisions of Decree 167/2013/ND-CP of the Government, sanctioning forms include:

Monetary fine.

Deportation.
1. Form of fine
According to the provisions of Article 17 of Decree 167/2013/ND-CP, the fine level for each visa overstay period is specified as follows:

Foreigners use the temporary residence certificate, temporary residence card or permanent residence card in Vietnam beyond the expiry date of 15 days or less without the permission of the competent authority: A fine of from 500,000 VND to 2,000,000 VND.

Foreigners use temporary residence certificates, temporary residence cards, permanent residence cards in Vietnam beyond expiry date of 16 days or more without permission from competent authorities: A fine from 3,000,000 VND to 5,000,000 VND.
2. Form of deportation
Foreigners who have their visas overdue in the two cases mentioned above, depending on the seriousness of their violations, may receive sanction of deportation from the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
3. Legal basis
Decree 167/2013/ND-CP stipulating penalties for administrative violations in the field of social security, order and safety; Prevention of social evils; fire prevention and fighting; domestic violence prevention.
